My art is inspired by the Mystery-Schools of Ancient Egypt. Such schools were the driving force behind Ancient Egyptian spirituality, creativity, and expression. The spirit of those schools have no limits in time and place. Thus, as statements of universal consciousness my painting unites the analogous symbolism of later philosophies and religions with that of Ancient Egypt. Indeed I see Ancient Egyptian form and symbol as the expression of a sacred consciousness, gnosis, or innate knowledge, which permeates all time and space with enlightened understanding. This universal mind embraces all cultures. It also makes Egypt a very special place. Al-Kemi, is the Arabic word derived from the hieroglyph for Kemet, the Black (or fertile) Land. It literally means Pharaonic Egypt. And from this word one may surmise the connection between Medieval alchemy and Pharaonic expression: each concerns the hidden science of transmutation. Transmutation: "the act of changing into another form." In this case it means, ultimately, the changing of man's form from a lower, physical state to a divine form. This has been the essence at the heart of all the world's great wisdom-teachings. The life of Christ, which exemplified that of an enlightened master par-excellence, put into practice the teachings of the Egyptian Temples before witnesses who would record his achievement as an example for humanity in the age of Pisces. His final achievement was his resurrection (or transformation) to a body of light. Visually, my work combines my own intuitive vision with the purity of ancient symbolism in order to produce compositions which radiate the patience and devotion of the Italian Renaissance Masters, the Medieval Illuminists, Fra Phillipo Lippi, Bottichelli, Andrea della Montagna, Jean Fouquet to name a few. While I feel the insignificance of my efforts and the humility of my station within the grand oeuvre of humanity's sacred expression, I believe the conscious power which created the universe delights in the effort of every child who expresses love for that creation by whatever means. Every such effort is very important! And, as I see it, I am no more than just a child who would look to the Sun as his Father. In the upcoming years I will add new works to those present in the Gallery. The accomplishment of such work is a slow process. Under the best conditions, a large work requires up to six months to complete. |
